I'm a Sophomore at a Pacific Northwest liberal arts college, and I fit in well there so that probably says something about my personality. I'm majoring in molecular biology and minoring in sociology because I want to understand society from the nucleotides up. After college I want to join the peace corps, travel the world and go to graduate school to become a genetic counselor.
I had a rather odd childhood on the rural Oregon coast and I post about it occasionally. I mostly just reblog things that I like, which varies day to day, but I do write text posts about my life on a semi frequent basis. They tend to be angsty venting sessions centered around my family, my chronic illness, and my anxiety. Other things that may or may not be interesting: I know a lot about farm animals. I'm an overly proud ΩΩΩ. I appreciate musicians who jump off of pianos, Scottish men who have beards and melancholic souls, the destruction of patriarchy, and sassy embroidery. You should follow me.

I put my heart where my mouth is
Forgot another interesting aspect of this trip, had a conversation with my cousin last night during which she informed me that half of my family has thought that I’m a lesbian since I was like twelve, which is alright I guess because if I ever really figure out my sexuality and it includes girls then I won’t have to come out or whatever, but it’s weird that they speculated but didn’t ask me about it
Cow mandible with honeycomb network of abcesses from actinomycosis infection. Actinomyces bovis is a gram-positive bacteria that leads to granulomatous abcessing of infected areas of the head and neck in cattle which can destroy bone. A related bacterium A. israelii causes a simillar but more rare condition in humans. In cattle the condition is referred to as “lumpy jaw.” Untreated, the infection will produce copious amounts of pus which discharges from the skin. Actinomyces were one thought to be a fungus because of their branching filamentous structures.I have never seen such an extreme case of lumpy jaw - I photographed some instances of mandibular osteomyelitis last November [see that post here], but our Ovis species are nowhere near this severe! Truly unbelievable that an animal could continue to live an eat with this incredibly dramatic infection in its face.

So I’m sitting in the airport and will be for the next 7 hours and there are so many people and half of them think I’m in the military because I borrowed my uncle’s duffle bag for this trip and after telling 5 people that I’m not on active duty and awkwardly explaining to 1 that I’ve just got my dead uncle’s duffle bag I regret bringing the damn thing even though I did fit all my stuff in it and it is really sturdy. Other than that and having the waiter at Denny’s hit on me while I was trying to do sudoku and being kind of lonely this trip is off to a good start
